Instructions for Strawberry Tea Cozy

Make the Sides of the Tea Cozy

There are three sizes:

  • Small: Will fit a teapot that holds 2 cups.

  • Medium: Will fit a teapot that holds 4 cups.

  • Large: Will fit a teapot that holds 6 cups.




Gauge

20 stitches and 27 rows should be equal to 4 inches.




Make the Sides of the Tea Cozy

You will make two of these.

Use the red yarn and cast 32 stitches - 40, 48.

Knit 3 rows.

You will work with a stockinette stick from now on (1 row knit, 1 row pearl).

Knit five rows.

On the six row: knit 7 in red and then 1 in yellow, repeat to the end of the row.

Knit four rows - 6 or 8 - in red.

Next row: purl 3 in red and then 1 in yellow, *purl 7 red then 1 yellow, repeat to the end of the row from *.

Knit four rows - 6 or 8 - in red.

Next row: knit 7 red then 1 yellow, repeat to the end of the row.

Knit four rows - 6 or 8 - in red.

Next row: purl 3 in red and then 1 in yellow, *purl 7 red then 1 yellow, repeat to the end of the row from *.

Set aside and make the second side.




Make the Top of the Tea Cozy

Distribute the stitches of your sides on some double pointed needles so that you can work on a circle. Mark your first stitch so that you know where you started.

Knit 4 rounds in red.

Round 5: knit 7 red, 1 green all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 6: knit 6 red, 2 green all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 7: knit 4 red, 2 green, and then 2 stitches together in green all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 8: knit 4 red, 3 green all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 9: knit 2 red, 3 green and then 2 stitches together in green all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 10: knit 1 red, 5 green all the way back to the first stitch.

Starting at this point, you will only work with the green yarn.

Round 11: knit 4 and then 2 stitches together all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 12: knit.

Round 13: knit 4 and then 2 stitches together all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 14: knit.

Round 15: knit 2 and then 2 stitches together all the way back to the first stitch.

Round 16: knit.

Round 17 and 18: knit 2 stitches together all the way back to the first stitch.




Make the Stalk of the Tea Cozy

Work your stitches to the end of the row and then slide them back onto the needle. Repeat this process until your stalk is the desired length.




Put the Finishing Touches on Your Tea Cozy

Stitch the sides together, remembering to leave spaces for the spout and handles.

Done!
