Refreshing Recipe for Sweet Tea

This is a refreshing recipe for sweet tea.

If you are from the South, then you already know that sweet tea is a beverage that people drink year round - not just during hot summer months. I did not know that. I am not from the South but I have friends that are and I was curious about the "sweet tea" they referred to so often...hence this Southern sweet iced tea recipe. The verdict?

Southerners are on to something, this sweet tea is great stuff!

Don't believe me?

Make some iced sweet tea, pour into large glasses and go sit outside with your sweetheart or a good friend and enjoy! Then come back and leave your review.

Recipe for Sweet Tea

Ingredients for Southern Sweet Iced Tea Recipe

  • 8 regular size tea bags - 4 quart size or enough loose black tea to make a gallon

  • 2 quarts of water - 8 cups

  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups of white sugar

  • A pinch of baking soda - about 1/4 tsp.

Note: Supposedly, this is the secret ingredient. The baking soda removes the bitterness of the tea as well as enhances the darkness of it without affecting the taste.

Method for Southern Sweet Iced Tea Recipe

Place the tea bags in the water and bring the water to a boil. As soon as it boils, turn the heat off.

Steep the tea about 20 minutes.

Remove the tea bags and transfer the tea to a one gallon pitcher. Add the sugar and the baking soda and mix until the sugar is dissolved. At this point, you can top with water and place in the fridge or you can add ice to the top.
