Recipe for Orange Poppy Seed Scones

These orange poppy seed scones are delicious. They are easy and quick to make. You could be eating them 30 minutes from now.

You may already know that poppy seeds are the seeds from the poppy flower which obviously belongs to the poppy family. Opium and heroin are from the same family, so are Codeine and Morphine!

Some say that you can test positive on a drug test from eating these scones. Well, this is true. Yes, having one of these orange poppy seed scones could make you look like a heroine user on a drug test. Why is that you wonder?

Opiates - such as Codeine and Morphine - can be detected in a urine test up to 48 hours after you take them. Poppy seeds - being related to these drugs - can affect this same test and give you a false positive.

No, this does not mean you are under the influence of a drug...it means that the test is very sensitive that's all. So yes, you can still enjoy a poppy seed scone...or two! Then come back and leave your review.

Orange Poppy Seed Scones

Poppy Seed Scones: Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 3 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 large egg

  • 6 tablespoons UNsalted butter - cold

  • 1 cup of heavy cream

  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

  • 2 teaspoons orange peel

  • Powdered sugar

Poppy Seed Scones: Method

In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Add the butter cut into little chunks. To mix the butter and flour you have two options:

1) Mix with the tip of your finger until the flour/butter mixture resembles fine sand.

2) Use a pastry blender and blend until the flour/butter mixture resembles fine sand.

Make a well in the center of your butter/flour mixture, add the remaining ingredients. Blend with a fork until a soft dough forms. When the fork no longer works, mix with floured hands to form the dough into a nice, soft and pliable dough.

Turn your dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll out with a rolling pin until it is 1/2 to 3/4 inch in thickness . Then cut into 2 1/2 inch circles with a biscuit cutter.
