Recipes for Irish Tea Cookies





Irish tea cookies are delicious and very easy to make.

You will find these tea cookies most often offered during afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is the most elaborate tea time for the Irish and it usually takes place between 3 and 5 in the afternoon. At this time, Irish tea cookies as well as scones are served along with butter, jam, lemon curds, vanilla cream and other toppings.

Irish Tea Cookies



Irish Cookies:

Irish Lace Cookies


  • 1/2 cup of UNsalted butter - softened

  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup of light brown sugar - packed

  • 2 TBs. of milk

  • 1 cup of old fashioned oats




In a bowl, cream the butter and the sugar together. Add the vanilla extract and the milk. Mix well.

Add the flour, mix. Add the oats and mix again.

Drop by the spoonfull on a greased cookie sheet making sure that there is enough space between the cookies as they will expand.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cookies have flattened and are nicely brown.

Let them cool for about five minutes before moving them to a serving plate or an airtight container.







Irish lace Cookies





Irish Shortbread Cookies


  • 1/2 cup of light brown sugar - packed

  • 1 cup of UNsalted butter - melted, browned a little bit and cooled

  • 2 cups of all-pupose flour

  • 1/4 tsp. of salt




In a bowl, cream the butter and the sugar together. Add the salt, vanilla and flour.

Roll out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch. Cut with a knife into squares and use a fork to make some patterns on top of your cookies. If you want to make some Irish Shamrock cookies just cut your dough with a shamrock cookie cutter.

Place on an UNgreased cookie sheet, and bake at 300 degree F. for about 20 minutes.

Hint: You can roll your dough into a log shape and then cut it with a knife.









Irish Oatmeal Cookies


  • 1 cup of UNsalted butter - softened

  • 1 cup of light brown sugar - packed

  • 1/2 cup of white sugar

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg - beaten

  • 1 tsp. of baking soda

  • 1 tsp. of baking powder

  • 1 1/2 cups of quick-oats

  • 3/4 cup of raisins - soaked in some water and rum or rum extract overnight

  • 1/2 cup of walnut pieces




In a bowl, cream the butter and the sugars. Add the egg and the vanilla.

In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon. Mix with the butter mixture.

Add the oats, the raisins and walnuts. Blend well.

Drop by spoonfull on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Cool these Irish tea cookies for about five minutes before moving to a cookie rack.
